Sustainability in Practice.
Sustainability is an integral part of my practice in both design and making. Wherever possible, materials are sourced locally, with reclaimed glass from salvaged and historic windows reintroduced into new work. Designs are carefully resolved at the drawing stage to minimise waste, ensuring glass is cut efficiently and offcuts reused within future pieces.
Consideration is also given to the wider environmental impact of materials production, from selecting suppliers for glass and lead who demonstrate responsible practices, to reusing packaging materials wherever possible. Energy use in the studio is managed carefully, including efficient kiln firings and incremental adjustments to firing schedules to reduce consumption without compromising quality. These approaches reflect a wider movement within contemporary stained glass practice towards circular making, material reuse, and more conscious studio production.
